How to Make a Blackboard Paint Surface

Blackboard paint is used to create a writing surface, a conversational piece or a shopping list in your house or school on wood, tile, sheet-rock, glass, metal or on your interior walls. These can be achieved by creating a black, non-reflective, smooth surface that is easy to clean and wipe with a duster or normal soapy water. The surrounding walls are then decorated in more pronounced colors in order to create a contrast.

To make a blackboard, you will need a cleaning cloth, soap, Primer, Paint stirrer and a Paint brush. First clean, dry and rid the surfaces off grease, and other contaminants. If the blackboard paint is to be applied over over a standard emulsion, then you can paint directly on the surface, of course after cleaning off the dirt. However if you are doing it over bare wood, you will need to fill any noticeable cracks and knots with a primer.

During the blackboard paint application, you should stir it while inside the can in order to get a clear and evenly mixed solution. These stirring process should be applied continuously throughout the painting process. Use a brush to apply the first coat, let it dry for some time and then apply the second and third coat, every time sanding it before applying another coat.

Under normal circumstance your blackboard should be ready for use within 24 hours after the last coat. This though depends on the aeration and the temperature of the surrounding. The finished product will give you a Matt black finish, will be hard wearing and non-reflective. The blackboards have found uses on scoreboards and menu boards since they are easy to clean an wipe.

This is some older cabinets that are being modernized with a dark transparent application of BASF’s, RM Diamont. They are finished with a coat of matte BASF clear. The mixture for the stain was 4 :1:1:1 – BC00:BC250:BC850:UR50 with a glasurit flat clear to get a well protected and uniform matte finish. This project costed approximately $100 in materials, a much more economical approach to a simple kitchen upgrade.

Help answer the question about Car Paint

What is the best way to paint a design onto a car?
I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of hand painting on cars. I do not want to spray paint. Do I need to use a specific type of paint or would car paint work? Would it hold better if I went over it with a clear car coat afterwards? Should I prepare the existing paint in any way before painting on top of it? Thanks!
